Donut Strike 4 Manna Kicks Off June 26
It's that time of year again: Your local first responders are giving up donuts for a good cause. Our very own Pensacola Police Department and Pensacola Fire Department have joined the commitment to not eat a single donut until the community steps up and donates at least 20,000 pounds of food to Manna Food Pantries.
PPD and Pensacola Fire Department are teaming up with Escambia County Fire Rescue and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office to collect food starting Wednesday, June 26 through Friday, June 28 to support Manna.
How can you participate?
First responders will be at grocery locations throughout the Pensacola area accepting donations from the public during the strike. If you want to help give our first responders their donuts back, be sure to visit one of the drop-off sites with your donations!
Click here to view drop-off locations for each day of the strike.
Donations can also be dropped off at Manna, 3030 N. E. St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the donut strike. Be sure to mention the donut strike so your donations can be counted toward the event! Some items needed include:
- Canned chicken and tuna
- Peanut butter
- Canned fruit in 100 percent juice
- Oatmeal
- Whole grain cereal
- Canned vegetables
Last year's Donut Strike 4 Manna collected over 34,000 pounds of food for those in need – think we can top it this year?

SCAPE Presents Waterfront Plan to City Council
New York-based architecture and design firm SCAPE presented its Pensacola waterfront plan to City Council on Monday, June 17, also presenting the plan to the public at a workshop that evening.
The plan aims to create a more connected public realm, with a focus on Pensacola's downtown waterfront.
SCAPE's plan outlines two catalytic projects: Bruce Beach revitalization, and the waterfront "hashtag" connector, which would enhance four streets with sidewalks, protected bike lanes, tree cover and more. The SCAPE study was funded by the City of Pensacola and the CivicCon Center, a joint initiative of the Pensacola News Journal and the Studer Community Institute. "I think if we don’t keep moving, we go backwards," said Quint Studer, founder and CEO of Studer Community Institute. "I think the SCAPE project is a chance for us to really create something incredible for the entire Escambia, Northwest Florida, not just the city of Pensacola, so people don’t have to drive two bridges to feel the water, don’t have to go different places – they can go right here."
