Mayoral Transition Team unanimously approves City of Pensacola Mayoral Transition Committee Report
Mayor Grover Robinson’s Transition Team presented and unanimously approved the City of Pensacola Mayoral Transition Committee Report during their final meeting on Monday, March 4. Mayor Robinson said the 90-page report, now available online, will serve as a road map to develop a strategic plan for the City.
“I was even more impressed than what I thought it was going to turn out to be,” Mayor Robinson said during the meeting. “We’re going to work to get everything in this report and get it moved forward in our community, it’s just going to take a little bit of time trying to do all these things at once. I know I have a great staff here at the City of Pensacola. So we’re going to begin to work and get this moving together and we will be moving forward to bring something to you, the citizens, that really implements all the things that are in here.”
The report includes a scope of review, key observations, recommendations, measurable achievement and barriers from each of the 12 team members, biographies of each team member and a list of names of people who provided public input. Over the past 90 days, the 12-member team of volunteers met with members of the public and City staff to receive input, suggestions and concerns to develop recommendations for Mayor Robinson.
“The City of Pensacola will be better because of what you did, the time you took, each of you, to make this better,” Mayor Robinson told his team members. “It amazes me when I look at this report, what it can do for our community moving forward.”
Quint Studer served as chair of the board. The team members were selected by Mayor Robinson to represent 11 categories: Connie Bookman, crime and safety; Michelle Salzman, education; Rev. Isaac Williams, neighborhoods; Kristie Tobias, governance; Christian Wagley, environment; Sena Maddison, transparency; Brian Wyer, economic development and entrepreneurship; Drew Buchanan, traffic and walkability; David Peaden, government efficiency; Bruce Vredenburg, finance and budget; Julie Sheppard, legal.
Each team member gave a brief summary of the feedback they received and presented their recommendations to citizens and Mayor Robinson. The Mayoral Transition Team unanimously voted to approve the report.
The report was put together by Barbara Scott Payne, Walker Wilson and DC Reeves and laid out by Bryan and Michelle at Duncan-McCall.

ST Engineering creates Pensacola Mayor's ScholarshipST Engineering announced on Tuesday, March 5 the creation of new scholarship to help local students pursue a career in aviation.
The Pensacola Mayor's Scholarship will be awarded to four high school seniors in the Escambia County School District every year. Each scholarship is $2,500 and is fully funded by ST Engineering. Scholarships can be applied toward an accredited aviation college or aviation-related technical school.
“ST Engineering continues to prove they want to positively impact our community and be part of it," Mayor Grover Robinson said. "This scholarship shows ST Engineering’s commitment to providing educational resources to our citizens to grow in the aviation industry."
The scholarship is the latest initiative by ST Engineering to support the sustained growth of a local workforce that is equipped with the right skill set for a career in the aviation sector. Since beginning operations in the new Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Pensacola International Airport, ST Engineering has offered the greater Pensacola area various program such as the Airman Trainee Program, Structures and Interior Internships and the Military Fast Track program to help the region develop a pipeline of talents to support its aviation sector. As people who undergo these program have the opportunity to receive paid on-the-job training alongside with classroom lessons, these training programs help provide a strong head start to job seekers who are keen to have an aviation maintenance career.

New Operator Selected for Pensacola Bay Cruises
The National Park Service and HMS Ferries, Inc. have signed a 10 year concessions contract for the operation of Pensacola Bay Cruises. HMS will immediately begin preparing for the 2019 season. Service startup date, schedule, prices, and other details will be announced as soon as they are available. Tickets for regular service will be all-day hop-on, hop-off, and discounts may be offered for children, military, seniors, groups, and frequent riders. Park entrance fees are waived for visitors arriving at Fort Pickens via Pensacola Bay Cruises. |

“We’re excited to start working with HMS Ferries, Inc. and to see this wonderful opportunity return to Gulf Islands National Seashore this spring,” said Superintendent Dan Brown. The service provides the community and visitors a unique way to experience the exceptional marine resources of Pensacola Bay and provides an attractive transportation option between Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Fort Pickens. Each leg of the triangular route passes through national seashore waters, which encircle Santa Rosa Island. Pensacola Bay Cruises will operate seasonally during the spring, summer and fall recreation season.

Pensacola Bay Cruises’ 150 passenger boats, named Turtle Runner and Pelican Perch, were built with funds received via a post-Deepwater Horizon oil spill settlement reached with BP. The settlement earmarked some funds specifically to compensate the public for the temporary lost use of the national seashore beaches and waters. The settlement earmarked other funds for restoration of the park’s natural resources injured by the spill.
HMS (Hornblower Maritime Services) has over 25 years of experience in the maritime industry, and currently operates boat cruises and ferries at locations across the country including the Mobile Bay and Gees Bend ferries in Alabama, and St. Johns River ferry in Jacksonville, Florida. They bring an experienced and capable team to the operation at Gulf Islands National Seashore and its community partners.

City of Pensacola recognizes 1955 Pensacola Jaycees
Thursday, February 28, the Pensacola City Council recognized the 1955 Pensacola Jaycees Little League All-Star team for representing Pensacola in the State of Florida baseball tournament.
They were the first African-American Little League team to compete in the tournament.
Mayor Grover Robinson issued a proclamation on the last day of Black History Month to congratulate the members of the 1955 team for their championship and extraordinary representation of our community and against racial segregation. |

Parks and Recreation to host outdoor survival skills campThis will be an introductory day camp over spring break where participants learn basic outdoor survival skills. They will travel to various locations, learn water purification, shelter building, fire starting, fishing, orienteering/hiking, plant and animal identification, and Leave No Trace practices.
3/18 Day 1- Class orientation, videos on edible plants, fire starting, shelter building, survival kit demo, and a visit to shoreline Park for orienteering course and saltwater fishing
3/19 Day 2- Fire building, and Dutch oven recipes at Big Lagoon State Park followed by a hike with plant and animal identification
3/20 Day 3- Orienteering hike on Juniper Creek Trail in Blackwater State Forest with shelter building, navigation, and water purification
3/21 Day 4- Freshwater fishing excursion to Steve’s Fish Farm
3/22 Day 5- Family Fish Fry from 12-1 pm. Kids out at 1 pm
