Mayor announces initiative for complete streets in Pensacola

At his weekly press conference on Monday, Mayor Grover Robinson announced his commitment for Complete Streets in Pensacola. Mayor Robinson is beginning the process of hiring staff to specifically evaluate streets in the City of Pensacola and identify improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Mayor Grover Robinson

“The real complete street is not just built for cars, it’s built for every other use we do there,” Mayor Robinson said. “We want to encourage a lot more walking and biking. If we encourage more mass transit, walking or biking, we put fewer cars on the road."

A Complete Street, defined by the National Complete Streets Coalition, is designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. There is not a single design or format for Complete Street, but it must be user friendly for everyone.

Mayor Robinson believes having Complete Streets in Pensacola will help contribute to a nationwide goal to stop traffic-related injuries and fatalities called "Vision Zero."

“It’s something we believe is necessary here as we go forward with Vision Zero, so we definitely want to be moving that direction and making ourselves better,” Mayor Robinson said.

A position is expected to be posted on the City of Pensacola job board soon. Check back on our website www.pensacolacityjobs.com.
