Jimmie Perkins, a Vietnam veteran and former Pensacola City councilman, received a new roof on his home on West Intendencia Street. Freeman Roofing donated the labor to install the new roof and bring it up to code. Materials for the roof were provided by Purple Heart Homes with funding from The Home Depot Foundation. In addition, ten new hurricane rated windows have been ordered for the Perkins’ home. Financial partner, Pen Air Federal Credit Union, provided over $10,000 in needed funding for three approved veteran projects in the Pensacola area.

Pensacola Mayor Grover C. Robinson, IV and Council Vice President P.C. Wu are proud to have many veterans residing in the city.
“We are equally proud that the city of Pensacola is involved with the National League of Cities and the City Housing Department to provide needed home repairs to ensure that our veterans can live safely in their homes for the service and sacrifice they made on our behalf,” said Council Vice President P.C. Wu.
There are 5,523 veterans residing in Pensacola and more than 60 percent are age 55 and older. Purple Heart Homes campaign was designed to help raise awareness about housing challenges faced by older service connected disabled veterans and their caregivers.
The Pensacola Division of Housing will provide Perkins with additional needed home repairs inside his house once his name reaches the top of the wait list within first quarter of 2019.
Pensacola US Army Vietnam Veteran Arthur Keller will get his roof replaced compliments of Owens Corning. Owens Corning has a partnership with Purple Heart Homes and other non-profits to provide veterans with roofing repairs at no cost to the veteran. Vietnam Veteran Charles George will have some needed electrical repairs done as part of the overall collaboration. Purple Heart Homes and the National League of Cities have partnered to work closely with Pensacola city officials. Both Purple Heart Homes and the National League of Cities are national partners of The Home Depot Foundation.
