Street resurfacing and natural gas infrastructure update

More than 1,600 blocks have now been re-paved in the city’s two-year effort to mill and resurface approximately 1,800 blocks, or 119-miles, of streets and roadways. The program includes streets throughout Pensacola, none of which have been resurfaced in at least a decade.

This week, work is planned on the following streets and roadways:

•Eighth Avenue, from East Cross Street to East Scott Street.
•North 14th Avenue, from East Maxwell Street to East Cross Street.
•East Hatton Street, from North 16th Avenue to North 12th Avenue.
•North 13th Avenue, from East Baars Street to East Scott Street.
•East Fisher Street, from North 15th Avenue to North 12th Avenue.
•East Anderson Street, from North 18th Avenue to North 16th Avenue.
•Escambia Avenue, from Magnolia Avenue to East Scott Street.
Vehicles must be removed from the street before work can begin. Cars left on the city-owned right-of-way will be subject to relocation. Completion of the street resurfacing program is currently scheduled for later this year.

Meantime, Pensacola Energy crews will be working throughout the city to replace more than 75-miles of obsolete, cast-iron natural gas lines with new, polyethylene pipes.

The natural gas work is taking place primarily off the roadway and presenting few traffic impacts. But, as is the case with the street resurfacing work, vehicles parked on the street must be removed before work begins. The natural gas main replacement program is slated for completion early next year.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent. Work may be postponed, delayed, or re-scheduled in the event of rain, cold, windy or other inclement conditions.

More information on the street resurfacing program is available by calling the city’s information line, (850) 380-9188. Questions about the natural gas distribution system upgrades should be referred to Pensacola Energy, (850) 474-5300.
