Street resurfacing and natural gas infrastructure update
More than 1,600 blocks have now been re-paved in the city’s two-year effort to mill and resurface approximately 1,800 blocks, or 119-miles, of streets and roadways. The program includes streets throughout Pensacola, none of which have been resurfaced in at least a decade. Work is planned this week on the following city streets and roadways:
• East Leonard Street, from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and North Ninth Avenue.• East Baars Street, from Davis Highway to North 12th Avenue.
• East Anderson Street, from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to North Davis Highway. Vehicles must be removed from the street before work can begin. Cars left on the city-owned right-of-way will be subject to relocation. Completion of the street resurfacing program is currently scheduled for later this year.
Meantime, Pensacola Energy crews will be working throughout the city to replace more than 75-miles of obsolete, cast-iron natural gas lines with new, polyethylene pipes. The natural gas work is taking place primarily off the roadway and presenting few traffic impacts. But, as is the case with the street resurfacing work, vehicles parked on the street must be removed before work begins. The natural gas main replacement program is slated for completion early next year. All planned construction activities are weather-dependent. Work may be postponed, delayed, or re-scheduled in the event of rain, cold, windy or other inclement conditions.
More information on the street resurfacing program is available by calling the city’s information line, (850) 380-9188. Questions about the natural gas distribution system upgrades should be referred to Pensacola Energy, (850) 474-5300.
