Street Resurfacing and Natural Gas Improvements update

Residential streets in Northeast and East Pensacola are currently the primary focus of work in the city’s street resurfacing program.

Streets segments scheduled for work during the week of Oct. 16-20 include:
  • Summit Boulevard, from Jerry L. Maygarden Road to Scenic Highway.
  • Tyler Avenue, from Bayou Boulevard to Connell Drive.
  • Hopestill Road, from Nagel Drive to Heyward Drive; and Heyward Drive from Hopestill Road to the east end.
  • Firestone Boulevard, from Bayou Boulevard to Summit Boulevard.
  • Hyde Park Road, from 580-feet east of Conway Drive to Scenic Highway.
Drivers should anticipate daytime lane closures and parking restrictions on these streets.

Meantime, milling and resurfacing work is wrapping up in the downtown, central/west, and western sections of Pensacola (Groups 7, 8, and 9). These groups comprise more than 600 of the 1,800 blocks in the current program.

Construction crews will focus this week on remaining manhole and valve adjustments, along with pavement striping, and punch-list items.

Natural gas crews will be working throughout the city to replace underground natural gas main. Most of this work is taking place off the roadway, with little or no impact to traffic. However, at times pedestrians may encounter closed sidewalks.

Residents and property owners are reminded that cars parked on the street must be removed before work begins. Construction personnel are distributing information door-to-door 24-48 hours in advance of the work to remind property owners of the parking restrictions. Vehicles left on the street will be subject to relocation so that work can begin.

All construction schedules are weather-dependent. Work may be postponed, delayed, or re-scheduled in the event of rain or other inclement conditions.

More information on the street resurfacing program is available by calling the city’s information line, (850) 380-9188. Questions about the natural gas distribution system upgrades should be referred to Pensacola Energy, (850) 474-5300.
