Mosquitoes put on notice

Imagine enjoying your favorite sporting event or a day at the park without constantly swatting away pesky mosquitoes. The City of Pensacola and Escambia County are partnering with Gulf Power on a project that could make those outdoor events more pleasurable.

In perhaps one of its most buzz-worthy projects, Gulf Power is working with the makers of DynaTrap® to test an innovative mosquito control prototype in a pilot project with the city and county to help control the mosquito populations in those areas tested. The traps mount to outdoor dedicated lighting poles and other structures.

The mosquito control prototypes will be tested in several public locations around the community such as the Southwest Sports Complex, the Escambia County Equestrian Center, Maritime Park, Bayview Park and Roger Scott Sports Complex.

As part of this pilot project, Gulf Power wants input from its customers about the mosquito device. Click here.

Pensacola Police at full force

As of today, the PPD is fully staffed. It has taken almost 2 ½ years, but due to the diligent work of the our personnel and the efforts of the City HR team, it has been accomplished. Attached is a photo of the new hires, they are all in different phases of the training. Some have graduated the Academy and will start our training program soon. Some are about to go to the Academy, and some are just getting started as Cadets.

“There’s a business adage that says, ‘if you can measure it, you can improve it,’” Morse said. “Clearly we can measure customer satisfaction. So by measuring and benchmarking it, we can now begin to pick those things that are important to the user of downtown and improve them.” Read complete article.
