Summary

All construction activities are weather-dependent, and may be postponed, delayed, or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.

The street resurfacing program is a multi-year effort to mill and resurface approximately 1800 city blocks, or about 119-miles of streets. Benefits of the work include:
  • Increased safety.
  • Less wear-and-tear on vehicles.
  • Improved rideability.
  • Better fuel efficiency.
  • Reduced life-cycle street maintenance costs.
  • A better appearance for neighborhoods and commercial districts that promotes improved property values.

Milling and resurfacing today saves more expensive street repairs in the future. Taxpayers have a tremendous investment in the city’s roads, and maintaining them is good stewardship of this investment.

Residents and property owners are reminded that cars parked on the street must be removed before work can begin. Construction personnel are going door-to-door 24-48 hours in advance of work to remind property owners of the parking restrictions. Vehicles left on the street will be subject to relocation.

More information on the street resurfacing program is available by contacting the city’s engineering consultant, Atkins, Inc., (850) 380-9188.

Crews from Pensacola Energy will continue working this week to replace approximately 46-miles of aging cast-iron gas main with new, medium-density polyethylene piping. Much of the cast-iron main being replaced has been in service for a century or more.

The natural gas distribution system improvements benefit Pensacola Energy customers through:
  • Increased safety.
  • Improved system reliability.
  • Reduced maintenance costs.
  • Increased system capacity.
As with the street resurfacing program, vehicles parked on the city-owned right-of-way must be removed before work can begin. Cars that remain on the street are subject to relocation.
