Historic replica yacht America to make Pensacola Port of Call
As our nation's first settlement--discovered by mariners--Pensacola has a unique connection with the worldwide sailing community. Our ties will be boosted by the November 10-12 visit of the Yacht America, official ambassador of the 2017 America's Cup. She is visiting Pensacola as part of the East Coast leg of the America's Cup Tour to spark excitement in the upcoming competition, and to engage the next generation of America's Cup fans.
America's visit will bring many people downtown for a family friendly event including dock tours and public sailing on a replica of an iconic vessel whose history pre-dates Modern Olympics by 45 years and is reportedly known as the "world's oldest international sporting competition."
An icon both literally and figuratively, her namesake's history is entwined with the adage, "there is no second place," and is linked to the first World's Fair, held in London, England, 1851.
Mayor Hayward and the City of Pensacola invites you to bring your family down to Plaza de Luna to tour the vessel, or enjoy a special "Blues Cruise" that will anchor in Pensacola Bay to watch our U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Team's Blue Angels on Saturday, November 12, before sailing out into the Gulf.
