Mayor Hayward statement on Fire Department promotions
It is a historic moment for the department. Courage, bravery and ability know no gender. Along with Cedric King’s promotion to Battalion Chief, Annie Bloxson and Ginny Cranor have become the first women promoted to Battalion Chief in the department’s history. These women are an inspiration to women and minorities, and we are confident that they will do even more to inspire women of all backgrounds. Furthermore, it proves that with hard work and dedication, anyone can accomplish a goal they put their mind to.
The Fire Department is moving in a great direction. The citizens, visitors, and businesses of Pensacola have a fire department that is well equipped and prepared to fulfill its mission of preserving life and protecting property. I am convinced David Allen and his team will continue to meet the growing demands of the community over the coming years.
It is a privilege to lead a progressive, customer –oriented department that constantly works hard to meet the needs of this community. This task could not be accomplished without the dedication and commitment of the men and women who make up the department.
Congratulations to all those promoted, and thank you for your devotion to duty and for serving our community.
