America's Tall Ship USCGC Barque Eagle
The City of Pensacola and Mayor Grover Robinson had a great visit with America’s Tall Ship, the USCGC Barque Eagle, and its crew during the ship's stay at Plaza de Luna last week. The Eagle is the seventh U.S. Coast Guard cutter to bear the name in a proud line dating back to one of the original Revenue Cutters built in 1792. The square-rigged barque was built by the Blohm and Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, and originally commissioned as Horst Wessel in 1936. The steel-hulled ship was taken as a war reparation after World War II, and a U.S. Coast Guard crew – aided by the German crew still on board – sailed the tall ship from Bremerhaven to New London.

Phase I of America's First Settlement Trail is Complete
The America's First Settlement Trail is a partnership between the City of Pensacola, Visit Pensacola and the A1S Trail Foundation, created with the goal of offering new opportunities for residents and visitors to explore Pensacola’s rich history. Phase I of the A1S Trail included completion of painting the 3-mile walking path through the Pensacola Historic District, and placement of temporary markers with QR codes that display information about our history and landmarks.
Future phases will include installation of benches, bronze plaques, and a continuous brick trail in place of the current burgundy line. For more information and a map of the A1S Trail, visit www.visitpensacola.com

|
Dave Covell with Mayor Grover Robinson
|
Dave Covell was recognized as the Employee of the Month for April 2022. Covell serves as an Operations Dispatcher at the Pensacola International Airport and was nominated for his response to a Frontier Airlines passenger going into labor mid-flight, forcing the plane to divert to Pensacola. He was alerted of this medical emergency so early in the morning that no critical airline personnel had arrived yet. Despite these challenges, Covell alerted 911 and other necessary crews to help the plane land safely. The mother gave birth safely on the aircraft before arrival, and both the mother and baby were safely transported to the hospital. Covell is known for his calm demeanor and is appreciated by all within the Pensacola International Airport. Congratulations, Dave Covell!
