City Announces New Assistant Directors for Housing and Public Works


The City of Pensacola is pleased to announce the addition of two new assistant directors to the city's Public Works & Facilities and Housing departments, welcoming Public Works & Facilities Deputy Director of Operations James Cook and Assistant Housing Director Meredith Reeves to the city's team. 

"We are fortunate to have both of these talented individuals here at the City of Pensacola," Mayor Grover Robinson said. "They each bring about 20 years of experience in their respective fields, and I am confident that their hard work will help us even better serve the citizens of Pensacola."

James Cook has been selected as the new Public Works & Facilities Deputy Director of Operations for the City of Pensacola, bringing over 20 years of project management and civil engineering experience to this newly created position at the city. In his role as the Deputy Director, Cook will oversee the Stormwater Maintenance, Traffic Operations and Facilities Maintenance divisions.

Cook joins the city from Santa Rosa County, where he most recently served as the Interim Public Works Director. His first day with the City of Pensacola was Tuesday, Feb. 22.  

In addition to his extensive public works experience, Cook is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida, and Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer. He also holds the designation of Project Management Professional. 

As the Public Works & Facilities Deputy Director of Operations, Cook will work under the direction of the Public Works Director to assist in planning, directing and coordinating the efforts of the Public Works Department. Responsibilities include training and development of personnel, evaluating and directing innovations for efficient and economic use of manpower, and assisting with preparing the department's annual budget. In addition, Cook will serve as the alternate Assistant Incident Commander for natural disasters that impact the city.

Meredith Reeves has been selected as the new Assistant Housing Director for the City of Pensacola, bringing nearly 20 years of housing and community development experience to this newly created position at the city. In her role as the city's Assistant Housing Director, Reeves will assist with planning, directing and coordinating the work of the Housing Department. 

Reeves joins the city from Escambia County, where she most recently served as a Division Manager. Her first day with the City of Pensacola was Tuesday, Feb. 22.  

As the city's Assistant Housing Director, Reeves will work under the direction of the Housing Director to assist with the administration of federal and state grants such as the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program.

In addition, Reeves will formulate policies and procedures for housing programs, prepare technical and administrative reports, assist with preparing the department's annual budget, plan and conduct public meetings and hearings, and represent the housing department on various boards and commissions.
