Ted Kirchharr Selected as City of Pensacola Human Resources Director
The City of Pensacola has selected Ted Kirchharr to fill the Human Resources Director position, responsible for managing the city’s human resources programs including training and development, performance management, staffing and more. Kirchharr’s anticipated start date is Monday, Oct. 7.
Kirchharr joins the City of Pensacola from Studer Group, where he most recently served as a Senior Director from 2017-2019. He previously worked at Landrum Companies from 2003-2016, serving as the Director of Strategic Initiatives before being promoted to Vice President in 2006.
Kirchharr said he’s looking forward to being part of the continued growth and progress in Pensacola, and he’s excited about the direction the city is going overall and as it relates to human resources.
“I’m happy to see the employee engagement survey completed,” Kirchharr said. “I think there’s a lot to be done with really developing leadership around what to do with those results…soliciting feedback from employees about what the next steps should look like, and then developing action plans around those next steps.”
Kirchharr earned a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University, a Bachelor of Science in political science from the University of West Florida and an Associate of Arts in history from Pensacola State College.
He also serves on a variety of local organizations, including Vice President of Pensacola Employ the Handicapped Council, President of the Pensacola State Alumni Association, and board of directors for YMCA of Northwest Florida, United Way of Escambia County, and Pensacola Escambia Clean Community Coalition, among others.
With nearly 20 years of experience in the public sector working for the Escambia County School District, Kirchharr said he brings a unique set of skills when combined with his experience in the private sector.
“It just seemed like a perfect opportunity to kind of blend my experiences,” Kirchharr said. “I had a chance to work with executive leaders and leadership across the board in those organizations. I have a passion for leadership development, so it just seemed like this was a nice mix of experiences that I could bring to the city.”
In his new role, Kirchharr will be responsible for recommending and implementing Human Resources policies and objectives, providing counsel to city staff on a broad range of HR programs and issues, overseeing employee development, and a variety of other HR-related duties.
“As we continue to build a great team here at the City of Pensacola and work toward improving employee engagement and development, we’re excited to have Ted’s expertise and leadership here to move our team forward,” Mayor Grover Robinson said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the insight he brings to the city’s human resources programs and the city as a whole.”
Kirchharr must be confirmed by a majority vote of City Council, which is expected to be on the agenda for the Thursday, Sept. 26 City Council meeting. The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, located on the first floor of City Hall, 222 W. Main St.
