City Council Appoints John Jerralds to District 5 Seat

City Council appointed John Jerralds to the District 5 seat at a special meeting tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 4. Jerralds was appointed by council by a majority vote, filling the vacancy left after District 5 Councilman Gerald Wingate passed away last month.

Jerralds was selected from a pool of nine nominees, who were required to submit an application of interest or a resume and be nominated by a City Council member. The list originally had 10 nominees, but Ron Helms withdrew his name from consideration at Wednesday's meeting.

Jerralds previously served on Pensacola City Council from 1999-2012 in the District 5 seat.

Visit the City of Pensacola website to view the meeting agenda and the list of nominees.

District 5 Councilman Gerald Wingate passed away on Aug. 13, and his unexpired term ends Nov. 24, 2020. Per Section 4.02(b) of the City Charter, the vacancy for the unexpired term of the vacated seat shall be filled by a majority vote of the remaining City Council members within 30 days after the vacancy occurs.

Jerralds was sworn in by the city clerk at tonight's meeting and will serve at his first City Council meeting at the Monday, Sept. 9 Agenda Conference. The Agenda Conference will take place immediately following the 3:30 p.m. Community Redevelopment Agency meeting in the Hagler-Mason Conference Room, located on the second floor of City Hall, 222 W. Main St.
