Recycling Update: City Extends Empty Recycling Can Collection Timeline
The City of Pensacola will continue to collect empty recycling cans from residents over the weekend and into the first week of October, as City of Pensacola Sanitation customers convert to the new twice-a-week garbage collection schedule.
The City of Pensacola Sanitation Services Department appreciates the public’s efforts and assistance as we approach 50 percent pickup of all recycling cans to date. The city is aware that many recycling cans were not collected or brought to the curb during the initial removal date and has provided residents with additional opportunities to leave their empty cans at the curb to be collected no later than the end of next week.
The new twice-a-week pickup schedule will go into effect on Oct. 1, 2023:
- Current Monday customers:
- Monday: Garbage and yard waste
- Thursday: Garbage only
- Current Tuesday customers:
- Tuesday: Garbage and yard waste
- Friday: Garbage only
- Current Wednesday customers:
- Tuesday: Garbage only
- Friday: Garbage and yard waste
- Current Thursday customers:
- Monday: Garbage only
- Thursday: Garbage and yard waste
This applies to City of Pensacola Sanitation customers only (black garbage can).
The City of Pensacola Sanitation Services Department has stopped using ECUA's Materials Recycling Facility to process recyclable materials from City Sanitation customers.
The public's patience and understanding is appreciated as Mayor D.C. Reeves and City of Pensacola leadership continue to work proactively on recycling solutions — including a temporary staffed drop-off recycling facility.
