UPDATE: Pensacola International Airport Operations Continuing Normally; Lighting Repairs Ongoing
Noon Update: Operations are continuing normally at Pensacola International Airport as crews continue to work on repairs to the airfield electrical system.
Pensacola International Airport resumed nighttime operations yesterday, Wednesday, May 17, operating with no flight cancellations. Nighttime operations will continue tonight, Thursday, May 18.
Travelers are encouraged to check their flight status at flypensacola.com/fly/flight-status. Any cancellation decisions are made by the individual airline, not by Pensacola International Airport.
Airport crews and contractors were able to restore service yesterday to the north-south runway to allow normal airport operations to resume, as additional crews are continuing to work on repairs to the east-west runway.
Another update will be provided by mid-day Friday, May 19 with the latest information on airport operations and lighting repairs.
Additional Information: Due to the runway and taxiway lighting outage, Pensacola International Airport travelers experienced flight cancellations after sunset on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16.
Flights arriving or departing from PNS during daylight hours have not been impacted by the outage.
The runway lighting outage was caused by an electrical fire that was discovered early Monday morning, located in an underground duct bank that routes the wires through the airfield electrical system. The electrical fire was contained to the underground duct bank and extinguished itself once the circuit was turned off.
Pensacola International Airport thanks travelers for their patience as crews worked to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and resume normal operations.
