Help the City of Pensacola Name Our Newest

Street Sweepers

The City of Pensacola is seeking the public's help with naming the city's three newest street sweepers, kicking off a contest to see who can come up with the best, most creative names for these unsung heroes of Pensacola's streets.

Name ideas must be submitted via the online form on the City of Pensacola website for consideration. Submissions will be reviewed by Mayor D.C. Reeves and city staff, and the top six names will be voted on by the public to determine the final three selections.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 14 at 5 p.m.

RULES:

Keep it clean! No profanity or innuendos (such submissions will be automatically disqualified).
Limit one submission form (three name ideas) per person.
Be creative! Names should give the street sweeper personality and/or allude to the street sweeper's function.
Name ideas must be submitted via the online form by the Friday, April 14 deadline for consideration.

The manufacturer and model of the street sweepers being named are as follows:

Street Sweeper #1: Elgin Broom Bear
Street Sweeper #2: Elgin Broom Bear
Street Sweeper #3: Elgin Pelican

The City of Pensacola has a fleet of eight street sweepers that remove an average of more than 4,700 of tons of leaves, debris and trash from city streets each year. Street sweepers provide a significant environmental benefit by helping prevent debris from entering stormwater systems and eventually discharging into local waterways.

Street sweepers run 16 routes every month, sweeping approximately 326 miles of city roadways in addition to 65 miles of State of Florida roadways within city limits.

City street sweepers also provide special event cleanup after parades and other large-scale events. By maintaining a consistent street sweeping program, the City of Pensacola aims to continue to provide an aesthetic and clean environment for Pensacola residents and visitors.
