Residents Encouraged to Monitor Potential Flash Flooding Through Thursday, Sept. 16 The National Weather Service in Mobile has forecasted significant rainfall with the possibility of flash flooding across the western Florida Panhandle. The rain is expected to last through late Thursday, Sept. 16.
Escambia County is expected to receive 5 to 10 inches of rain with locally higher amounts in excess of 15 inches. The amount of rainfall will likely result in significant flooding along with river flooding.
"With excessive rainfall continuing in our area, Escambia County should expect flooding," said Escambia County Public Safety Director Eric Gilmore. "It's important to remember road safety, especially when you come across a flooded roadway."
Escambia County has opened all eight sand locations throughout the county. The sand is available on a first come, first served basis. Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels to one of the following locations (map):
- Baars Field Athletic Park - 13001 Sorrento Road, Pensacola
- Brent Athletic Park - 4711 N. W St., Pensacola
- Don Sutton Park - 2320 Crabtree Church Road, Molino
