Burgess Road Sidewalk Project to Begin June 1

The City of Pensacola will begin construction on the Burgess Road Sidewalk and Drainage Improvement Project on Tuesday, June 1, which will add new sidewalks along the roadway to better connect the neighborhood and provide enhanced safety for pedestrians. 

The project, which is a partnership between the City of Pensacola and Escambia County, will also include significant drainage improvements with the addition of new storm structures and pipes, modification of existing ditches and construction of new drainage inlets. 

New sidewalks will be constructed along the north side of Burgess Road from Sewell Street to Lanier Drive and along the south side from Joy Street to Mona Lane. The project will also implement current industry-standard traffic calming measures, including lane adjustments and increased signage.  

"We are continuing to work toward enhancing walkability and pedestrian safety throughout the City of Pensacola, and this project is just one example of those efforts," Mayor Grover Robinson said. "I'm excited to see these new sidewalks constructed along with the new safety measures on Burgess Road, which will make the roadway safer for all who use it."

The project will also be addressing utility upgrades on behalf of Emerald Coast Utilities Authority and Pensacola Energy during construction, and the City of Pensacola will be reimbursed for that work.
 
The City of Pensacola awarded a contract to Roads Inc. of Pensacola for construction of the Burgess Road Sidewalk and Drainage Improvement Project. The project is expected to take approximately 270 days to complete, weather permitting.
 
A city construction inspector will be monitoring the contractor and project progress daily. During construction, various traffic detours will be necessary, and the contractor will be required to implement all necessary safety precautions onsite.
