UPDATE: Public Invited to Give Input on Downtown Hashtag Connector Project

Virtual Public Meeting and In-Person Open House Scheduled
for April 13 and April 14

Please note updated project slide below.

The City of Pensacola invites the public to provide input on Phase I of the Downtown Hashtag Connector Project, which is a catalytic project supporting the city's goal to create a more connected public waterfront in Pensacola.

The city is offering opportunities for both in-person and virtual input:

  • Virtual Presentation and Discussion: Tuesday, April 13 from 5:30-7 p.m. Free online registration is available through Eventbrite. Registration is not required, but is encouraged for planning purposes.
  • In-Person Open House: Wednesday, April 14 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Community Maritime Park Amphitheater (Behind Blue Wahoos Stadium, 301 W. Main St.). Free online registration is available through Eventbrite. Registration is not required, but is encouraged for planning purposes. In-person attendees are asked to wear face coverings and continue to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
All residents, business owners and stakeholders are encouraged to participate so they can learn about project updates and share feedback that will inform the further development of the project. Public input is a critical part of the design and engineering process for this project. The community's thoughts, opinions and suggestions are highly valued and will inform design and engineering decisions for this and future phases.

"Pensacola's waterfront is one of our most important assets in the City of Pensacola, and I'm excited to see projects like this move forward so we can continue to enhance connectivity and improve public access to our beautiful waterfront areas," Mayor Grover Robinson said. "I encourage everyone to provide their input on this important project that will benefit the entire Pensacola community for years to come."

At the meetings, the engineering and design team will provide an update on how the project planning has evolved since the last public meeting held in February 2020, and share additional research and lessons learned from similar projects in other cities and towns.

The Downtown Hashtag Connector Project was initiated as a catalytic project of the Pensacola Waterfront Framework Plan, with the goal of creating a more connected public realm along the city’s waterfront.

Key project priorities are:

  • Create a walkable, bikeable, and safe environment
  • Connect people to the waterfront
  • Acknowledge and celebrate historic significance, and
  • Encourage infill development and retail along Main Street
The project is being planned by the engineering firm Dewberry, with consistency review from SCAPE and with continued public input. The first phase of the project includes improvements to Main Street between South Alcaniz Street to South Baylen Street.
