[ARCHIVED] Ribbon Cutting Set for Government Street Regional Stormwater Facility at Corinne Jones Park

Government Street Regional Stormwater Facility at Corinne Jones Park

Mayor Ashton Hayward and District 7 Council Member Jewel Cannada-Wynn would like to invite the community to join them for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Corinne Jones Park (620 East Government Street) on Saturday, February 17th at 10:00 a.m.

Corinne Harvey Jackson Jones was an African-American community leader who served as the director of the Fricker Community Center for many years. She was a tireless activist, educator and community volunteer who dedicated her life to helping children and working to better the lives of others through her deep commitment to public service. The Corinne Jones Park is the site of the former Corinne Jones Center which was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The Corinne Jones Park and the replacement center, Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones Center are named in her honor.

The park is now the site of the Government Street Regional Stormwater Facility, which is designed to capture and treat storm water runoff from 40 acres in downtown Pensacola. The park features a full-size basketball court and two-story playground with climbing features and two slides. There is a smaller version of the play equipment for younger children as well as a swing set that features single seats and an Expression Swing for a parent and child to enjoy together.

For additional information about the park please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (850) 436-5670.
