[ARCHIVED] Parks and Recreation Recognizes Volunteers for National Volunteer Month

National Volunteer Month Collage.png

In honor of National Volunteer Month, the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department would like to say “Thank you” to all of the outstanding volunteers who help make our programs and facilities such a huge success.

There are hundreds of individuals and organizations in the Pensacola community who have reached out to the City with a willingness to serve their fellow citizens. Their efforts contribute to making Pensacola a great place to live, work and play. We would love to recognize them all here, but to any individual or organization not mentioned, please know that your efforts have made a difference to the citizens of Pensacola and we are grateful for your generosity with your time and talents. “We have a great collection of volunteers here in our community,” said Mayor Ashton Hayward. “Their selfless efforts to donate time, talent and supplies speaks volumes about the generosity of Pensacola and our region.”

It takes a lot of effort to keep our parks clean and beautiful. Organizations like the Florida Department of Health, Naval Hospital, NATTC Air Department Petty Officers, Scenic Highway Foundation, HDR of Pensacola, Ocean Hour, Earth Ethics, Boy Scout Troop 99 and many others help sustain our Adopt-a-Park program.

The University of West Florida often sends student and faculty volunteers such as the Delta Gems, Kappa Sigma, Zeta Psi Aeta, Argo football team, Environmental Science, Sports Management and Public Administration, and Theater Departments to help with special events, special projects and park cleanups. Pensacola State College and Pensacola Christian College have both likewise sent students and faculty to help in these efforts.

The hundreds of volunteers from NAS Pensacola who continued to give time over the past year to assist with our special events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Egg Haunt, 5210 Day of Play and JAKES event. We appreciate your continued support and professionalism. Your team brings smiles to so many faces at each event and we couldn’t do what we do without your help.
Groups such as Tennis For Everyone, Milk and Honey, Truth for Youth, AARP, Council on Aging, ARC Gateway, Special Olympics and many others improve the lives of our most vulnerable citizens: at-risk youth, the disabled, and senior citizens.

Volunteers are one of the most important resource community organizations can have. This month we honor you and your efforts and thank you for all that you do.
