Mayor Ashton Hayward will present a proclamation to the Special Olympics-Escambia County to recognize their long-standing partnership with Parks and Recreation as well as to recognize the athletes who competed at the Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
This summer over 40 athletes from Escambia County participated in the State Summer Games in May. Bringing home more than 50 medals, these athletes competed in sports such as basketball, volleyball, bocce, stand-up paddle boarding, bowling, decathlon, powerlifting, swimming, track and field, tennis and gymnastics.
The City of Pensacola and Parks and Recreation want to recognize these athletes for their dedication to Special Olympics sports and encourage them as they embark on a new year of training and competition. The partnership with Parks and Recreation continues to strengthen the Special Olympics Escambia County program and the department is looking forward to supporting this outstanding program again for the 2015-16 season.
The presentation to the Special Olympics of Escambia County will be made at the August 20 City Council meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m.
