[ARCHIVED] Hayward reaches tentative agreement with general employees union

Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward announced today that he has reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with the City's AFSCME collective bargaining unit, representing the City of Pensacola’s general employees.

“Our front-line employees are one of our City’s strongest assets,” said Mayor Hayward. “This tentative agreement is a win-win and manages to keep costs under control while making sure our employees are paid fairly for the great work they do each and every day.”

Since taking office, the agreements Hayward has reached with the City’s police, fire, and general employee unions have reformed public pensions and significantly reduced future costs by cutting the City’s unfunded pension liability by nearly $20 million.

The tentative agreement is set to be voted on by the full union membership in early September. If ratified, the contract will then be presented to the City Council for final approval.
