Residents are invited to attend a RESTORE project application workshop hosted by the City of Pensacola on behalf of Escambia County. The workshop will be on Tuesday, June 16, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones Community Center (913 South I Street). The workshop is designed to assist residents with the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies (RESTORE) project submission process.
Escambia County anticipates opening a web-based project portal for citizens who wish to submit project ideas for RESTORE funding on July 1. It will include the Board of County Commissioners recently adopted selection criteria being used to evaluate and prioritize project submissions. Anyone is welcome to submit a project once the project portal opens.
The chair of the County’s RESTORE Advisory Committee, Bentina Terry, will lead the workshop and will be supported by Escambia County staff and representatives from Dewberry, the County’s RESTORE Act consultant. They will present information and answer questions about the project selection criteria, the application form and the submission process.
The RESTORE Act established the Gulf Coast Restoration Trust Fund to receive penalty dollars collected from responsible parties associated with the oil spill. Monies from the Fund will be used for programs, projects and activities that restore and protect the environment and economy of the Gulf Coast region.
