In recognition of Armed Forces Day, Mayor Hayward commended our troops and veterans for their service to our nation and community.
This week, Armed Forces Week, Mayor Hayward showed his appreciation for the men and women of our Armed Forces through a social media series highlighting five City employees representing the branches of the military. Mayor Hayward recognized each employee’s continued service to the nation and community both in and out of uniform. One of the featured employees, Hosea Goodwyn, City of Pensacola Human Resources Coordinator, expressed his pride serving in the United States Navy by stating, “no country can do what we do better than us.”
“I am deeply humbled by the commitment and dedication of the men and women in our armed forces,” said Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward. “Pensacola is deeply proud of our special relationship with the military, and we are truly blessed to have veterans and reservists who have chosen to continue their public service as members of our team at City Hall as well as in our police and fire departments. Their expertise and passion for service helps us to deliver the services our citizens depend on each and every day."
Armed Forces Day is Saturday, May 16th. It is an annual celebration that falls on the third Saturday of May. Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 by Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson after the Department of Defense unified the Armed Forces under a single department of government. This day is held to increase public awareness of the different types of jobs performed by the Armed Forces, to acknowledge the important role of the military, and to honor the members of the Armed Forces in our country.
