OLGA Dedicates Memorial to Doretha Hunter
The Osceola Ladies Golf Association (OLGA) dedicated a bronze plaque in memory of Doretha Hunter, who passed away September 14, 2015. A bronze plaque was placed on the #4 tee box by OLGA to remind us all to live our lives like Doretha lived hers.
Doretha was the only member to hit a hole-in-one at Osceola's hole #4, which she did in January 2014. Current and former teammates, as well as Doretha's niece and aunt have tried to perform the same feat (a 1 in 12,500 occurrence) with no success. Doretha's long-time teammate and friend, Ethel Lee, hit the shot closest to the pin.
Doretha was born in Mississippi but her family relocated to Chicago where she spent most of her life and met husband, James. Together Doretha and James raised two children. The couple retired in Pensacola.
"We shared sweet memories of Doretha Hunter, who showed us 'how to live life with courage and grace and a smile on our face'," said OLGA President Pammie Soteros. "Doretha loved to play golf, and those of us lucky enough to play with her were shown how to enjoy every minute of life to the fullest."
The ladies would like to thank Golf Pro & General Manager, Adrian Stills and Course Superintendent, Eddie Daigle for placing the plaque and helping host the event.
