Park Needs Assessment

Parks provide countless health, social, environmental and economic benefits to communities. Simply stated, communities with abundant parks and quality recreational facilities thrive.

The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with the University of West Florida Sport Management and Public Administration programs are evaluating the city's park system to better understand how to improve space and resource utilization.

The project started in June 2015 with an inventory of the city's park system. Sport Management undergraduate students worked with the city to develop an inventory instrument and then completed a physical inventory of each city park.

Currently UWF Faculty and the Parks and Recreation Department are working to finalize the park inventory and collect public input through the end of April 2016. Additionally, the project includes a bench marking study, which will allow the city to compare its program to peer and aspirant communities on several key metrics.

Finally, UWF Faculty will assist the Parks and Recreation Department with developing a strategic plan based upon the data collected and citizen input.
