February 4 - First Annual Black History Month Essay Contest at Westside Branch Library

In recognition of February as Black History Month, the Westside Branch Library is inviting Escambia County public and private school students grades 6-12 to participate in their first annual Black History Month Essay Contest. 
  
Essay theme:
What can I do to make a difference in my community?”
  
Entries can be hand delivered or mailed from January 26 to February 22, 2010 to the Westside Branch Library located at 1580 West Cervantes Street, Pensacola.
 
All entries must be received no later than 8pm on February 22d.
       
Prizes (donated by Friends of Westside Branch library):
 
I. First Place PrizeA Touch Screen MP3/Video Player
with a built in camera
  
II. Second Place Prize - $50.00 dollar VISA Debit Card
  
III. Third Place PrizeGift certificate for two (2)
to Rave Motion Movie Theater 
  
  
Contest Rules:
  • Essays must be no more than 2 pages, handwritten in English and submitted on standard notebook paper only. 
  • Each essay submitted must be the work of one student and may not be the collective work of multiple students.
  • Judging by Lulu Lewis and others will be based on effort and originality.
  • Winners will be notified by phone and prizes will be given out at Westside Branch Library's 3rd Annual Black History Celebration on February 27, 2010 at noon
  • Winners must be present to receive their prize.
