February 2 - Free Tax Help at the Library Starting February 2nd

Tax season is here — and April 15 is just around the corner! Do you dread filling out those confusing forms? Are you afraid of making a mistake? Or does someone you care about need tax help this year? The AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program is here to help — absolutely free.

Lines form early, frequently before the Library opens!  At 9:00 a.m. an AARP volunteer will begin taking names at the Gregory Street entrance of the Main Library. Assistance is provided on a first come, first served basis.  No telephone registrations will be accepted.  AARP membership is not required.   
 
Please bring the following Documents:
  • Ø        Copy of previous year tax return. If necessary, contact the IRS for a copy of last year's return.
  • Ø        W-2 forms from each employer
  • Ø        All 1099 forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-misc., etc.) showing interest and/or dividends as well as documentation showing the original purchase price of your sold assets
  • Ø        If you were paid Social Security benefits, bring your SSA-1099
  • Ø        If you received a pension or annuity, bring your 1099R
  • Ø        All forms indicating federal income tax paid
  • Ø        If applicable, unemployment compensation statements
  • Ø        Child care provider information (name, employer ID, SSN)
  • Ø        If itemizing deductions, bring all receipts or canceled checks for items such as medical expenses, taxes paid, mortgage interest paid, and charitable contributions
  • Ø        Social Security numbers for all dependents
Please note, AARP Tax-Aide is administered by the AARP Foundation.  The Library does not provide any personal tax assistance nor can we answer tax related questions.  AARP volunteers do not have access to telephones and will be unable to receive phone calls regarding tax assistance or completed returns.
