According to a Florida Department of Transportation announcement in January 2010, the Pensacola Bay Bridge will need to be replaced within six years. This gateway connecting downtown Pensacola with Gulf Breeze has reached the end of its 50-year design life. The Florida Department of Transportation is conducting a Project Development and Environment study regarding a replacement for the current bridge.
